Featured Story: 'The Power of Business Analysis - My Way Into Business Analysis’ By Oksana Flyak

What happens when someone in an operational role starts solving problems before they have the title?

You get a self-made Business Analyst who used curiosity, Excel, and a continuous improvement mindset to drive real impact, long before ever becoming certified!

Seven years ago, Oksana started out in operations as a Business Order Administration Specialist and later an Operational Accountant. The company encouraged improvement initiatives, but there was no budget, just access to internal training, support pillars, and problems to solve.

What followed was a journey of identifying inefficiencies, automating repetitive tasks, and turning pain points into better processes 👏.

Here’s what stands out:
✅ Eliminated 100% of human error from credit card allocations, saving 60+ hours/month
✅ Reconciled 20,000+ transactions to fix a historical finance issue
✅ Reduced bank statement processing time from 1.5 hours to 10 minutes
✅ Became known as a go-to problem solver and key LEAN/Six Sigma contributor

The takeaway?
Business Analysis isn’t a formal job title, it starts with the mindset and a willingness to question, learn, and improve is all it takes to make a difference.

Today, Oksana is CBAP certified with 9+ years’ experience across finance transformation, COTS implementation, HR automation, and software delivery, and her business analysis journey all started with a few Excel macros and a refusal to accept “this is just how we do it.”

It's important to remember every improvement matters, every question counts, as that’s the BA mindset in action 😍.
